nykeiko eats: Mekelburg's for sandwiches and artisanal beer!

Manhattanites rarely wander into deep parts of Brooklyn. The crowd usually flocks to Williamsburg (which is only one train stop outside Manhattan), spend the day at Smorgasburg or Brooklyn flea and think they’ve got a taste of Brooklyn. But what happens when you venture deeper into Brooklyn? A LOT! Every time we explore deep into the borough, we find new shops and restaurants we get really excited about.

Recently, we stumbled upon Mekelburg’s (add link: http://www.mekelburgs.com/), a fine food and craft beer shop located in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. This place opened just a couple of months ago and will surely become a neighborhood gem. Here they locals and those willing to travel can do their grocery or simply stop in to enjoy some food and a drink. You can buy fresh food like locally sourced fruits and vegetables, pick from a mountain of cheese and a variety of house-roasted meat. To complete your grocery experience, you’ll find specialty food, condiments and more to fulfill your home cooking experience.

If you are not here to shop, you can head toward the back of the shop where they serve beer on tap (or in a can) and a delicious selection of sandwiches, small plates and salads. We came in for a quick lunch with some friends and tried some Szechuan peanuts and pate (perfect to pair with beer), a B.L.A.S.T. (bacon, lettuce, avocado, soft shell crab (!) and tomato) sandwich, a Wagyu roast beef sandwich and a salt baked potato topped with caviar. Other things on the menu we were interested in tasting but saving it for next time are the roasted oysters (not on menu), a plate of bone marrow and caper salad. These are delicious foods served in the most casual of settings which makes it a fun place to catch up with friends with good beer and food.

Mekelburg’s just a few steps from the G train and a few more steps from Brooklyn Flea’s Saturday spot in Fort Greene during the summer.  Check Meckelburg’s instagram feed (add link: https://instagram.com/mekelburgs/) to see what beer is on tap weekly and what new additions they have on their evolving menu.
