Williamsburg eats: For "hipster" sushi , I recommend Samurai Mama in Williamsburg

We (or I) was hungry for some sushi today and looked up some top japanese joints in our area. Samurai Mama came up as one of the top rated restos with '$$' so we had the bright idea of rollerblading there to build up an apetite! We were hungry and ordered way too much as usual but that let us try a couple of things on the menu although 90% of what we ordered contained the same thing.
I love Ikura and think we overdid it ..

The decor was charming and quaint.

We started with some pork belly Daikon. Reviews raved about this so we tried it. Just like a good home cooked stew.

Salad Mama with salmon sashimi

Bowl of cold Udon with Ikura and salmon. Many people around us ordered Udon and so I think that's what they are popular for. The Udon was chilled and perfect for a hot day.

Salmon flake and Ikura Gunken sushi + Uni and Ikura mini don

And finally, more Ikura in Bara Chirashi

In all, I'd recommend this place for shizzle!

Second look at 'Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty' at the Met

I HAD to return to the exhibition for a second look. I went when museum doors open to avoid the hour(s) long wait for the exhibition. It's getting crazy. People coming from all over trying to see the exhibition before it disappears in August. The dresses, the accessories, the shoes. I feel so lucky to live in NY and to be able to do this.

Here are SOME of my fav pieces at the exhibition...My cell phone pictures cannot reveal details very well and do the incredible embroidery any justice.

I'm sorry I can't follow museum rules and not take photos. At least I'm sharing them!

Today's buy in Soho...

Taking advantage of APC's sale. A lady-like belt for lady-like outfits...
Made in France! Oh la la.

Alexander McQueen exhibition at the Met: Savage Beauty

I never knew clothes could evoke such deep emotions in someone...unless that piece of clothing was a pristine white and worn while eating a big bowl of splattery red sauce meatball spaghetti....um yea. Anyway, Savage Beauty at the Met, which features most of Alexander Mcqueen's best pieces, is a highly recommended exhibition for anyone who appreciates not only fashion but the arts and unconstrained creativity. I loved all the intricate embroidery and appreciated the hours spent on one goddarn unaffordable outfit for my middle class peeps.

Of course I got a souvenir from the exhibition. My very own Armadillo shoes. Mine were not $10,000 though and tiny. I think labbit likes it.

The line up before opening of the Met at too darn early for a week end..Totally worth waking up at 7 for! Thanks to My, we were one of the first ones in line.

Photos were not allowed so here's one I illegally took and another I took from a friend's fb album and the rest are from the web. It's better to see these pieces in person anyway.

Frolicking nature in Frelighsburg Quebec

Spending months in the hustle and bustle of New York city, it is nice to have a day out in the boonies. Strolling around the farm under a warm sun and driving through vast farmlands with firefly infested forests was truly a wonderful treat. I will never take the beauty of nature for granted and all of its gift. Especially the gift of food. The freshest salad I have ever tasted was here at La Girondine! So simple yet so satisfactory.

Fresh iceberg salad with smoked duck. o m g.

Chicken was not on the menu that day but I'm sure they taste scrumptious.

Welcome newest member of Keiko's m0851 family!

My biggest m0851 bag ever! The Weekender bag.

Thank you Mel for hippidy hopping in and out of the office to pick a bag that I would like for me during the sale... xxx I will love it more than my other bags and cherish it forever and ever until...When's the next sample sale? heehee kidding!
