Kristen's Bell loves sloths and I love her top on Ellen show :)

Of course while watching and laughing my arse off at Kirsten Bell's reaction to meeting a sloth, I noticed her cute blouse. Googling who designed that top was no problem except it's not in season it seems and this was the closest thing I found:

Zha Jiang Mian noodles à la Keiko

When you have nothing in your fridge and you’re hungry, you improvise.

I bought a $1.99 cucumber for dinner and I was lucky I had a box of tofu in the fridge to work with and made this… Zha Jiang mian à la Keiko. I like to add "à la Keiko" because that’s when I improvise on a recipe and it can only be re-created once..taste wise anyways.

There are no real quantities or anything but that’s okay and is what makes it fun! The sauce goes really well with rice too! mmmm

This is what you will need:
-For the Noodles: With the cooked noodles blend in some olive oil (not very AZN), Sa Cha sauce (Find in Chinatown), scallions, Guilin hot sauce (recipe from my sister).
Add some freshly chopped cucumber to garnish and offset the salty flavor from the sauce.

-For the sauce: Use porc (or tofu like I did), on a pan simmer in with bean sauce, onions, scallions, garlic, water, sesame oil, sugar and oyster sauce. Add anything else you’d like: shitake mushrooms, cucumber, carrots…Of course using meat will enhance ze flavor.

Enjoy!

So nervous...

This is also a good self defense mechanism..but you'll have to stab many times for it to be effective..

Totoro on the big screen

Dave surprised me by taking me to the IFC in NY to watch Totoro on the big screen. He covered my eyes and made me wear earphones and ear muffs while he took me to the theater to surprise me. I have watched Totoro so many times on VHS and DVDs since I was a kid but never on big screen. I felt bad that I wasn't as excited as I should have been...it was a week day and I was hungry but I'm glad he took me :)

I heart Totoro.

Spanx..no Spanx...

I read many reviews about how these super tights can make you look better in any dress that you may own and I had one dress that I needed extra help with in tightening some places (tummy mostly). Plus, I had a gift card I needed to use on Amazon so I gave it a try and ordered these $40 wonder babies. When I received my Spanx in the mail, I tried them on and I was so miserable for those 5 minutes I did. It was miserable getting in them first of all and when I wore them, I thought I looked hideous and not everything was tucked in as I have hoped. Maybe I should have gotten size B but it might have been too big since I fell under the size A category.

Oh god I was so miserable...and then I made the mistake of putting them in the dryer today. GAHH.. I'm stretching them out now wearing them on my lower thigh and opening up my legs back and forth to loosen the band...Why did i put them in the dryer?!? Now I might just die putting them on.

The perfect little getaway ...Turks and Caicos December 2011

Back in October, when Dave got his pawsies on a Google offer where you pay $30 for $300 credit off any Jetblue Packages, I was uber excited to browse Jetblue's website to look at their hot winter Getaway packages (flights + hotel) we can pick from.

There were quite a few Caribbean and South America destinations to pick from but only a few stood out. There were trips to Mexico, Puerto Rico, St Marteen, Bermuda, Bahamas and the usual US destination yawners such as Florida, Miami, Vegas etc. It came down to how many days we were willing to take off and what we wanted to get out of our trip. Since Dave could only take a couple of days off, we looked into 4 days 3 night packages. Because it was such a short period of time, we decided that we wanted to just go somewhere to relax and do nothing much except snorkeling.

If you are looking for nothing but white sands and turquoise clear blue waters and to do nothing but eat, tan, swim and drink alki...then Turks and Caicos is the place for you.

You will eat very well on the island but at a cost :)

You must check out Grace Bay Club's beach lounge area at night.

We stayed on the island of Providenciales (aka Provo) where there is nothing more than just rows of resorts lining the many beaches on the islands. But be warned, expect to spend a lot of money on food and drinks if you do not get an all-inclusive. The island is small and there is really not much to do. We recommend renting a car to get around since it is cheaper than hailing the taxi and gave us more freedom to explore around. You drive on the left side of the road and there are barely any road signs or traffic lights which makes it fun!

Must try the conch salad at the Conch Shack.

We barely enjoyed our beach at the Alexandra Resort (Grace Bay) because we went snorkeling practically every day and it was tiring! We bought our own snorkeling gears and waterproof disposable camera which was a great idea since the ones the resorts and tours loaned out were overused and bleh.

Here is a video montage I made summarizing our trip from December! Enjoy! I had the perfect song from Coldplay to pair with the montage however Youtube and Fb just would not allow the song to be used. *sad face*

Oh yes I did...a real winter Canadian parka!

Oh yes I did!
I invested lots of pennies on a parka I hope to wear for the next decade or so for the price I invested. I hope this will keep me warm assuming that I will still be living in a climate where winters freezes the crap out of you. I am not even sure how I survived Canada's coldness before with the coat I currently have since it is obviously way colder in Montreal than it is here in New York. I must be getting old.

Ssense.com (from Montreal) was the only website that sold this coat in the color (red!) and size that I wanted but as I was contemplating the cost, they sold out for a while so I gave up on it as they never re-stocked. Since I had already been shopping around for coats every winter year after year, I did not look elsewhere and decided to just keep wearing my current coat concurrently with my Mackage wool one that I only wear for special occasions. A couple of months later, just for the heck of it, I checked ssense.com again to see if they had new styles up and low and behold, they had the coat back on the site and with only ONE size left (A returned item maybe?). And it was MY size so it was a sign (in my head!) to get it! I was still hesitating about the cost but I got it because I didn't want to let it get away again and also, I have been looking forever for the perfect parka but unsuccessful.

The Canada Goose Victoria Parka is not too bulky and is slimmer than the other CG coats I have tried on. I hope this coat will keep me warm but based on the reviews, it can get too hot wearing it which is fine with me. Actually, I don't like to sweating in my clothes...oh well. I ordered it last week and I hope it arrives soon because winter is slowly slipping away from NY however, unlike the past couple of years, we had a fairly mild winter to begin with so I may not be wearing my new coat too many times this time around .... I never thought I'd be asking for cold weather so I can wear test this coat out. Freak winter snow storm please?

Of a Kind- My pick!

There are 20 of these cute little bags made in the world. How so?

'Of A kind'(ofakind.com) is this unique little website where new up and coming designers make special limited edition pieces to be sold which varies from accessories, jewelry, bags and more for both men and women (mostly for women!). Each item comes with some type of certificate of authenticity signed by the designers to prove that what you have is 1 of either 5 to 50 of that item made! So, of course, with the increasing popularity of this website, things sell out fast so you have to be subscribed to the newsletter to make sure you get first notice when an edition comes out.

Just imagine the pleasure of telling someone who wanted to know where you got that necklace or earrings.....You can answer: Oh, you cannot get it anymore. I got one of the 20 made in the world teehee. Also, you will rarely see someone else down the street wearing the same thing à la H&M...But mostly, because there are so few of these items made, just imagine the care and time taken into making each and every one of these pieces. It is a good feeling!

I had Vanillekipferln craze over the holidayzz..

I had a German butter vanilla sugar cookie craze over the holidays...

This is the most I've baked in my whole lifetime I think.

Ingredients:

210 g unbleached flour
1 egg (just the egg white)
150 g of unsalted cream butter
80 g of cane sugar
pinch of salt
1 vanilla bean (big!)

You can also add ground almond mix (60 g), it makes the cookies taste even better!

I just mix/mend/pound everything together with my hands until it becomes a dough and refrigerate overnight or just 1-2 hours if you're in a hurry!

For the icing:
lemon or lime juice and add sifted powdered sugar until it becomes gooey wooey and add a dash of vanilla extract!

My recipe doesn't give complete instructions but I trust most of you have more backing experience and know how to make better cookies than I can.

Why would I pay money for this?! Drop-crotch jeans!

The questions is..who thought about designing these in the first place and who actually wears them?

If I wanted drop-crotch style jeans..I'd just dig in my closet for my bigger jeans that always fall down my ass crack...although these days, those jeans fit pretty snug.
Neverminddd....

These were supposedly "cool" once reported on Refinery29 and now they are back in stock at Oak's in NYC. No thank you.

No muffin top leggings!

They work!
I got these online off this special promo from Refinery 29 blog. They are $15 each usually but I got 2 for $17.50. No more muffin top for me! They are a bit thin for winter though but the waist band is no doubt comfy.

I should be writing a paper now but I decide to post this. Procrastinate much?
