New on my cozy winter wishlist [M.M. Lafleur]

The Morandi by MM Lafleur

New on my cozy winter wishlist is this 100% wool cardigan by M.M. LafleurThe Morandi. I'm a bit allergic to wool but I usually layer underneath my wool pieces and this piece seems so nicely threaded and non-fuzzy that I think my skin would be able to tolerate it. What I like about it is that it not only looks so practical and comfy, it is totally machine washable! I love a thick knitwear but they are so annoying to wash. You usually have to dry clean or risk deteriorating them but I have been hand washing my knits to save some dineros. I handwash most of my cashmere and wool garbs but it's annoying since they can get really heavy, wet and you have to dedicate an entire hanging rack for the sweater to lie flat on. The Morandi seems like the perfect wardrobe staple...so is everything from M.M. Lafleur actually!

Because this piece is priced at $230, I need to put it on my wishlist for now...

Demain: My picks from Isabel Marant pour H&M

I have not been excited about a collaboration for quite some time now. The last one, Phillip Lim x Target was lust-worthy but I wasn't ready to log onto the internet or exit my apartment to jump in line to shop. I had a feeling I would be disappointed with the pieces if I saw them in person. In the past, I returned all my Jason Wu x Target collab pieces except for the lace clutch and I sold my Prabal Gurung x Target heels after I received them. I also looked at the remaining pieces left from the Lanvin and Margiela & H&M collabs and didn't like what I saw and felt. The quality is so poor (I should not be surprised neither). However, something is different about Isabel Marant's collab with H&M. Perhaps because of the promotion tactics via bloggers (because I'm addicted, Fashion toast's instagram, Song of Style) ? The Coveteur? Preview launch parties with lots of pictures? It tingled my interest but I'll just have to see in person.

I'm a fan of Isabel Marant's chic, urban, hip, cool, easy and maybe Parisian look (She got it all?). Some pieces from the collab are too funky for me but some can be really good for mixing and matching. I liked a couple of things from the Isabel Marant X H&M lookbook so if you care about my top picks (pieces I see myself wearing vs pieces that look good on the models), here they are! Stuff ain't cheap...

Update: I got the black lace dress and white lace top!

Because it is getting cold... ($299)

It's wool and classy ($149)

Looks so cozy

I love lace ...($129)

This lace top will pair well with...($99)
this jacquard skirt... ($79.95)
and tie up the look with these shoes. ($199)

Oh just browsing...Valextra bags

Mon ami Michael told me about this Italian brand called Valextra the other day after I had mentioned to him that I was looking for a timeless designer bag. At first I wasn't too keen on the style. I thought the bags looked like what 60+ year old Upper East side women would wear but now, I'm slowly warming up to these bags (I'm halfway to 60). Always being able to recognize all the "it" bags being toted around the city, I realize I don't want to hold an "it" bag on my arm. I want a bag that is distinguishable by the style and quality and not by its logos and branding. This is the total opposite of what I had told Michael. That I want something recognizable like a Chanel bag. When you see a Chanel, it's indistinguishable from other brands. Valextra seemed too low key for me and the designs weren't "spectacular". However, that was then (like only 2 months ago) and this is how I feel about them now! I am tired of seeing the same bags everywhere. It is probably just in New York where all these girls can afford $2000-3000 bags!

The Valextra bags remind me of House of Hermès and Louis Vuitton but without all the logos. Valextra is often dubbed the "Italian Hermès" and every bag is insured the utmost quality because of the handmade craftsmanship. If I am going to spend over $2,000 it better damn well last me until I croak. But money is not the problem sometimes. Of course, I won't be able to wear these type of bags on a daily basis because my line of work does not require me to dress up daily. So, it probably won't be worth it for me to purchase a designer bag? It would be just too weird holding a fancy bag paired with jeans, a tee and runners, don't you think? Yes, yes, I know you can look uber cool wearing indigo skinny jeans, a soft Alexander Wang tee and Superga shoes, but no, that's not what I wear to go work in a lab.

Here are some Valextra bags I picked from the bunch on Barneys' website. The bags are very minimalistic but the best part is, there is no brand logos splattered all over!

I like the shape of these clutches...

Can this fit my laptop?

A bag for a day out in the town... but I like big bags to stuff lots of things in...

A classic black bag?

A pop of red! Looks like it's for important business ladies though..

This can fit probably everything I need...It kind of looks like a dog bag though..but it seems so roomy which I like!

Oh and I stumbled upon this brand, M2Malletier. It has a more modern look and maybe more suitable for me! What do you think?

Shameless display of my 2012 holiday wishlist [luxe version]

Hello.

I don't get too excited about Christmas except for the great holiday deals on stuff I don't really need. Also seeing people being generally happier because of shorter work hours, holiday parties filled with booze and food and receiving lots of gifts or little or none (like me!) makes me happy too.

Since many bloggers shamelessly compile a holiday wish list for all their readers (and family and friends?) to read, so will I! I have no hopes of receiving anything from this list because I made sure it was generally unaffordable and even my best of friends would not want to buy for me.

Here's my holiday wishlist from 2010.  I didn't really get anything from that list except a new winter parka and Dave got the ipad2 which I don't really play with it proving that I didn't really want it in the first place. I am still generally happy without those things except missing my parents from time to time. I thought I also wrote a list for 2011 but I can't find it so I guess not.

Here goes my 2012  holiday wishlist!

1- A gift certificate for a spa day at the Mandarin hotel in NY. My boss got one once as a birthday gift from the department and I thought it was so girly but a man can indulge right? I checked the website to see what my $10 was contributing to and at up to $950 USD for some spa treatments, it looks like going there can change your life! What I really want is a 2 hour massage followed by a facial while simultaneously getting a deep foot massage. Oooh yes baby! I'd like this to be a couples' massage so I won't feel too guilty swimming in indulgence by myself.

2-Delicious, long burning, naturally scented candles from Diptyque, Jo Malone, Voluspa, ...Yes I already have some luxe candles but they eventually burn out...after 60 hours! Oh, what about this $600 candle?

3-Now that I'm engaged, I have to start thinking about this thing called wedding. So what I wish for is a wedding planner with excellent, sophisticated taste that will find me my venue, my flowers, my decors, my emcee, my DJ, even my dress and dealing with relatives? teehee.

4-A large PS11 Proenza Schouler bag. The metal hardware with the inverted studs makes this bag a modern but classical item which I like a lot. This bag comes in all sorts of color. I liked it in oxblood or dark blue but black is..well black! I think the PS11 has been my 'it' bag for a while since it made me forget about the PS1 which I find does not suit my age anymore. Yikes! Did I just say that?  It is a simple design and the hardware , not too flashy and seems large enough to fit my everyday supplies. I like.

5-A new faster, thinner, prettier laptop or computer ie. Macbook air or iMac. My Macbook was purchased in 2005 (exchanged in 2007 because of repairs). Shall I say more?

6-An Equipment blouse. Because $200 for a silk blouse, I must think twice about but if it were a gift, I would love one! Actually, the silk blouses from Everlane at $80 are a great alternative although Equipment is equipped with tons of color and pattern choices.  But since I like it clean and simple, Everlane just might do it for me and I would like the one in Navy and Light Grey.

Image via Everlane

7- It is Winter and a good quality soft cashmere sweater is desired. I like the $50 cashmere sweater I got from Uniqlo but it's still slightly itchy making me doubt that it is 100% cashmere. At that price, it's probably low grade cashmere somehow mass-produced in China. What are good cashmere sweaters out there?

Chinti & Parker for Goop
8-Rich luxurious body creams that are thick and leave my body soft without too much chemicals. $5 jar of Nivea?  I wish it was scented with natural essential oils or something. But hey, this is my wish list so why not a $220 jar of La Mer body creme?

9-A thick and heavy but soft throw for our couch. I never really like lying on our couch because there is lack of something soft.  How about this faux fur throw from Restoration Hardware? Not expensive enough? A real fur throw then!

10- I would usually end my list with some type of shoes, watch or jewelry. Like a Louboutin or something. Or I can wish for a timeless watch like a Cartier tank. But this year, I got the one and only thing that's more beautiful and more valuable than any of that. My beautiful engagement ring. Bling. I'm still shy about showing off my ring so I cropped it. I adore the diamond Dave carefully picked (or jeweler picked) which he had beautifully set on an intricate hand-engraved Tacori wedding band. He choose the whole thing allll by himself (proudly saying it). Zooming in makes diamond appear larger than it really is.

You see why I need a good moisturizing cream! Tacori wedding band - nykeiko.com

11-Usually stopping at 10 is good enough but I want to ask for more. Well, this is something money can't buy and a true wish. I will ask that for 2013 and forward, people close to me such as my family and friends, lover and myself to stay healthy and happy. Really. I really do wish for health. Without health, you cannot be yourself and you cannot be fully happy. When one person suffers, everyone around him/her suffers too. Therefore this wish is a selfish one because if someone close to me is sick, it affects my happiness too and I don't want that. Eat healthy, sleep well, drink water, exercise and laugh!

From the top of my head, this is my 2012 holiday wish list. Is it too unreasonable? ;) Maybe just the free wedding planner right? But that would be a good one because as of now, I have no desire to plan anything :)

Happy holidays xxx

Black diamonds are cooler than white diamonds! [Mociun + Of a Kind edition]

Mociun Black Diamond earrings for ofakind.com

Earrings by Mociun for Of a Kind.

I missed out on Mociun's first edition for Of A Kind but I like these ones better! I have been looking for another pair of earrings to wear day and night to adorn my 3 empty ear piercings but that would also compliment my solitaires. The subtle edginess of the black diamonds is not the only thing I about these precious gems. I like the shape, the asymmetry and the quality. Made in NYC with 10-karat gold plus three black diamonds. What more can I say?

Visit Mociun's store in Williamsburg and fall in love with all the home accesories, ceramics, brass jewelry, sculptures and of course her jewelry line. It is rare to find artists working with full gold or silver because it is too expensive but sometimes it is just worth it because gold-filled do not last forever like I once thought. Oh, she makes custom jewelries too so you can order yourself a one-of-a-kind piece.

I spotted this cute turquoise and diamonds pair at the store and can't stop thinking about them.

Oh GOOP! Gwyneth Paltrow's fab collabs! [online shopping]

Ever heard of Gwyneth Paltrow's GOOP page? It used to be kind of like her little blog but has now turned into an e-commerce and digital media page. What I like about the page is that she shares many of her favorite things with her readers and also gives tips and advices on traveling, restaurants and hotel recommendations, recipes to try at home, different hot spots in every city she has ever visited and must-have beauty products she has tried tested and true. However, not everything mentioned in her blog is accessible to the general population since sometimes, you can only get that one thing in Paris or the UK or simply too expensive/exclusive! It is sometimes interesting to get a glimpse into the life of a celeb if that's what you're into.

I'm liking her latest venture which is GOOP Collection. GOOP collaborates with all these mighty designers she loves which I may or may not have heard of before but some of you must have. That's the great thing about collabs where one brand takes advantage of the other's popularity and rides the wave of new found popularity. I'm sure all the designers she has projects with already have a cult following or else she wouldn't have heard about it right?

Like this sweater collab for instance. I've never heard of this UK based brand Chinti and Parker but now I'm curious about their knitwear line after falling in love with this cashmere sweater they did for Goop. Only thing is, it's way over my budget. Come to think of it, almost every other thing in Goop collection is not really affordable for me :) Any Goop sample sales coming up?

These are truly limited edition reserved to those who have extra money in their bank and a fan of Gwyneth's taste in garments.

Here are some limited edition goodies I'd like in my closet!

Chinti and Parker Heart infested cashmere sweater for Goop!

Some of you already know I am a fan of Rag and Bone so to see them create three pieces just for Goop, I was in awe.

Gwyneth Paltrow looking fab in her Rag and Bone blazer!

Rag and Bone leather jeans for Goop!
I don't see myself wearing this but I like Nicole Richie's hobo line : House of Harlow and she created this clutch exclusively for Goop.

The latest from Goop!

Ever heard of Birchbox? It is a great service for anyone that loves to sample different kind of beauty products before committing to a full size product. Each month, a Birchbox filled with curated beauty samples is delivered to your door steps. They have created a special one just for Goop readers. I heard of Birchbox but was never interested in signing up but this picked my interest because Gwyneth's taste is fine and I have a feeling her picks will be worth the $10 this box cost.

Shopbop sale going on now until Wednesday!

I have been perusing Shopbop, Piperlime and various websites these couple of days to find dresses and shoes for three upcoming weddings this summer. So I really only need one new dress and a pair of shoes...

On shopbop, I used their useful feature 'My hearts' on all the pieces I was considering and like Pinterest, had them all in one page to view and ponder on my choices.

Low and behold, Shopstyle announces a Shopbop sale this morning and I thought it was a sign..a sign to buy NOW! Sizes tend to run out quickly so it's best not to wait and buy.

It's nice that there are free returns to try things out and return them if you don't like but still keeping the savings on the other items you keep. Buy more, save more and decide later :)

Savings start at 20% if you spend $250 and more up to 27% if you $1500 and more.

Here were my hearts:

Michael Kors two toned sandals.

Diane Von Furstenberg dress. Viscose and silk.
The Newbury boots are out in a different color! At 25% off with all sizes available, you can't miss out. The next time there will be a sale on these is when sizes for petite or big foot are left.

Happy shopping!

Oh hello. I want you. .

I wonder if you're comfortable to walk in.
They said you were made for NY girls to walk in NY.
Will you stand true?
Will I complain about you after an hour of walking?
Will you make my feet stink?
Are you worth all the hype?

The Laundress- Hand washing my clothes just got more pleasant for realz!

Maybe some of you have heard of The Laundress or none of you but anyway, I have read about it in numerous websites including Refinery29, Daily Candy and Who What Wear. They are not cheap products (example: Those 16 oz bottle for washing are $19 each! That's a nice sushi combo deluxe somewhere..) so when Refinery29's Reserve had a deal going on for- Pay $50 to get $100 worth of The Laundress products, I immediately took advantage of the deal to try out the stuff at half the price if I buy $100 in products that is. I'm an avid hand washing person but without the right products, detergents like Tide really dries out your hand and loaded with chemicals that are difficult to rinse off and would not be good for your intimates such as bras and undies. I actually had this wash powder for delicates I bought from 'La Vie en Rose' - a lingerie store- back in Montreal but it turned as hard as rock a while back and I spend 5 minutes scraping powder before washing. ..not fun! I've had it for more than 3 years!

I got 5 types of products from The Laundress website:

Fabric wash: I guess it is like Febreeze but without the generic clean smell and without any harmful chemicals. I will use it to spray our couch which we can't put in the washer unfortunately but needs to be cleaned!

Sweater Stone: Takes the pricklies (piling) from sweaters and stuff that need de-piling. I didn't try it yet but I have a couple of sweaters that need it.

Wool & Cashmere Shampoo: I got to try it out on not one but three of my cashmere/wool/silk mix cardigans and by following their video instructions, the results were great. It made my cashmeres so soft and smelling good (Cedar scent). This will definitely help save me some money on dry cleaning bills which is ridiculously expensive in NY. So $19 is not so bad after all!
I will only send it to the dry cleaner when it's a precious item i.e. designer or it has become too filthy i.e. worn too many times to justify the cost of dry cleaning.I would recommend the Wool and Cashmere shampoo to save yourself money on dry cleaning and also save yourself and your clothes from those harmful chemicals used during Dry cleaning. In fact, the shampoo states that it helps get rid of toxic chemicals such as PERC which is used in dry cleaning. It will work on Down, meriono, angora etc.

Delicate Wash: I got two of these. Perfect for my bras and panties especially since all my panties are 100% silk. My mom got about a dozen pair for me when I visit. Delicate wash is formulated to remove perspiration, body oils and stains! It's also good for those delicate tops and dresses!

Wash and Stain bar: this one is more for the bf's shirt collars but I tried it on one of my shirts too that had these stains I could not remove even with those harsh sprays. Maybe the stains have been there for too long but I still managed to remove most of it with the help of a toothbrush.

They are a company from NY but due to high popularity, they also sell outside of NY, just go on their website to find store locations near you. They also have a large line of home cleaning products and more specialty products for laundry like swim wear, whites, darks, denims, baby and more! Definitely worth considering!

Happy washing!

I like these Rag and Bone orange skinny jeans!

These are the skinny jeans I have been contemplating to buy. I tried them on twice now and liked them both times. They are $176 USD each and I just can't get myself to spend that money now on jeans. However, on Piperlime, theres a 20% off sale going on but my size is gone and it hasn't been there for the past week. I also have this 15% discount for first time buyers which I would like to use for these jeans but can't!! They are super stretchy and comfy, super bright and original, and for the first time, I'd own a pair of jeans that are neither in variations of blue or black! Should I spend full price on seasonal colored jeans? I can see myself wear this until Fall paired with white tee and black blazer.

Update 5/8/12: They are now $122.50 on Piperlime!

When I hit 30...this shall be mine..

Cartier Tank watch- It's a sign! It has my birthstone on the knob!

Mmm. Maybe 35. 40? 50? Never? The cost of this baby will take me a decade to save up for.....maybe a nice birthday gift to myself when I'm 50? It even has my birth stone on the knob-sapphire!

Yea, it wouldn't be right for me to wear such a famed expensivo watch right now however, if I got this watch, it should last me a lifetime right? Can it be a heirloom-18K gold? Will the leather strap even survive the test of time or abuse by me? I'm pretty rough with my stuff ..expensive or not. Just ask my iPhone. But at this price, it should magically ward off scratches, damages, thieves...for life!

If it's something I'm going to wear daily from day to night, I must love it! So I've decided not to settle for less and just wait, wait for the right time to get the right watch and be..on time (teehee)! I really do not like taking my phone out 100 times a day to check on the time as I constantly need to work on experiments, attend seminars or meetings. Even though many people I know don't own watches, it's just good to have one n'est ce pas?

A couple of years ago, I picked a Seiko watch vaguely similar to this style but it did not survive longer than two years which is expected for a watch that cost me (my mom) less than $100? Before that, I hadn't had a watch since early high school because I was particularly picky about what I'm going to put on my wrist on a daily basis. I almost purchased a TAG Heuer watch but couldn't find the exact model and style I wanted and waited season after season for them and then just gave up.. and now, I don't think TAG suits me anymore. The models I was looking at averaged under $1300-$1500 which is still a substantial amount for a watch.

For now, the Cartier Tank watch is nice to look at and for me to dream about finding a $9000 "bill" to buy this $8900 watch. It's so simple and a casual classic. Look how beautifully it is worm by Jackie O and Angelina Jolie..it also helps that they are sophisticated confident women as well.
