Pieces of Home: Plant and vase

Home decorating is underway but not quite done yet. I can't wait to show it off so here are some sneak peaks...

Vase on sale at Urban Outfitters for $5 (was $35). Plant was a gift :)

Goodbye Brooklyn, hello Manhattan!

We love rolling around on that rug...
First day in the apartment! I took the day off to continue unpacking and making the apartment more livable. There is still a lot to put away. I end up moving a lot of crap into the guest room and it might stay there for a while. I'm so exhausted! I also had a consultation with California Closet today. We will be adding lots of shelves and drawers in the closet for better organization of our shizz. When we were trying to figure out how many shelves should be dedicated for my shoes, the consultant said I actually don't have that many pairs of shoes at all. I wish Dave was there to hear that. This will be the only work we're doing in the apartment so far. Next phase would be the kitchen but for now...we're just looking to buy new lamps (the one in the picture is borrowed), new coffee table, side table, armchair and a TV. We never owned a TV before and need something to entertain our guests.

This weekend I will...

I must blog about it so I won't bail on my to-do list..

1. Make lemonade Popsicle sticks since I bought Popsicle molds in Maine. Don't ask why I bought kitchenware in Maine...
2. Spend time with my big sister and nephew who are visiting NY for the first time since I've moved here for a week!
3. To finally unpack from last week's trip and finish up some laundry
4. Share Maine pictures on my blog
5. Clean apartment!

Seems like a simple to-do list right? I'm simple!

Oh, look what I made today and check out these cool new glasses I got in Montreal! I really didn't know what to do with them but they were on sale but now I'm glad I got them!

When I buy a big bag of lemons, I usually squeeze and drink one lemon per day to compensate for the lack of fruit I eat daily which is none most of the time. I know. Bad. I was really consistent with drinking one lemon per day for more than two months but then stopped because my lemon supplier (a colleague at work who has subscribes to freshdirect.com) failed to supply me some Meyers lemons on demand. Today, I wanted to jump back into my routine and start with freshly squeezed Sunkist oranges. It's so good. I can't believe I never did this before and actually let D spend $5-6 on a bottle of "freshly" squeezed orange juice. I do need a real juicer though because getting juice from each orange with a lemon reamer took longer than it should- but oh so satisfying to drink the fruit 'juice' of my labor.

A new hue of blue to feel unblue

What my apartment would look like from a 60s photograph

After almost a year living in our current apartment and deciding to renew our lease for another year, we finally bought a bucket of paint and set out to revamp our entire apartment!! Ok.. not true! We had a plan and the plan was just to paint ONE wall. THE accent wall. We are simply too lazy to do all the walls. It took us almost a year to get to this point so one wall is more than enough!

We had a plain looking white wall

At first, we wanted a dramatic color that would pop out such as RED or Cobalt blue but then we thought we needed a color that would be more soothing to the eyes on days when we just want to chill and relax in our living room. Note that we live on a one bedroom apartment and our living room is where we spend most of our time so it was important to get a cool hue that wouldn't kill our eyes. I picked this dark royal blue in matte from Behr.

Not that I know much about paint but Behr's paint is PERFECT. We were going to go for some cheap brand but it was important for me not to be intoxicated by the smell of paint for days. I was able to coat without wanting to puke (the smell was pleasant actually) and it had the perfect glide and consistency!

I never really painted walls in my life. So this was a fun easy project especially since I didn't do much of the painting because we only had one roller. I did help brush the corners and also had fun drawing on the wall as you can see below.

This is how I helped out by drawing Keiko..
